Improving dementia care through technology
There have been many technological innovations in dementia but little has got into practice and much of the research has lacked robust methodology and not included people with dementia and carers in the design and testing. Two recently funded EU Marie-Curie research networks programmes INDUCT (Interdisciplinary Network for Dementia Using Current Technology) and DISTINCT (Dementia: Intersectorial Strategy for Training and Innovation Network for Current Technology) support thirty Early Stage Researchers (ESRs) across Europe, who are carrying out research projects aiming to improve the lives of people with dementia and their carers through technology. These studies look examine how to get useful technology evaluated and into practice and have produced international best practice guidelines. One of the studies is illustrated by the development and testing of the app Thinkability to deliver cognitive stimulation therapy by remote access.
